Research Interests:
My primary research interests are in economic policy, particularly those related to regional economics and development, labor markets, human capital, geographic and occupational
mobility, and demographic change. Secondary interests are in resource management.
Most of my publications fall into one of the following three categories:
- Regional economics (regional, rural, and local development)
- Labor issues (human capital, labor mobility, demographic change)
- Resource management (amenities, planning, and energy)
The Southern Regional Science Assocation (http://www.srsa.org) met in Arlington, VA-Washington, DC, March 27-30, 2008 to hold its 47th Annual Meeting. The members elected Peter Schaeffer president of the association for 2008-09. The next annual meeting will be in San Antonio, TX, April 2-4, 2009. A brochure with additonal information is available (PDF file with brochure).
In 2007 the Division held a symposium in honor of Professor Walter C. Labys, who had retired in 2006. The papers contributed to the symposium, complemented by additional papers from outstanding scholars of resource markets and modeling, have been gathered in an edited volume scheduled for publication with John Wiley & Sons in September 2008.
