Project Update (06/06/02)
Everything is in the Ground
-
With just a couple of good dry weeks we've managed to get the market and demonstration gardens planted
as well as all the field crops including, potatoes, soybeans, and rape seed. So far most crops are doing quite well, and it looks like
we'll have a productive season.
Field Day
-
This year's Farm Field Day will be Thursday July 18th 2002 from 3-7 PM. See the full program of events at our web site http://www.caf.wvu.edu/plsc/organic/frontpage/offd.htm
The Field Day will include a wagon tour of research and demonstration plots emphasizing transitional practices for growers considering converting from conventional to organic practices as well as several demonstrations of organic practices. The Plant and Soil Science club will be cooking this year's supper and we expect they will surpass even last years fine fare. Gates open at 3 PM with the Wagon Tour starting at 3:30 PM. The day concludes with a light supper at 6 PM. Pre-registering is requested so we know how many are coming for supper. Register by sending an e-mail to: tbatchel@wvu.edu or call
For more information, call Dr. Jim Kotcon at 293-3911 ext. 2230
Spring Lambing
-
All the pregnant ewes have lambed and the new revised total is 39 more than doubles the flock and
is a success rate of about 125% Sometime in the future some of these lambs will be for sale and we'll let you know about that.
Buy our produce (In season) at the Mountain
People's Market, the Saturday Market on High St., select local restaurants,
and the Thursday ice cream sales at the back loading dock of the agriculture
building.
