Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri is the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC is a co-recipient, together with former Vice President Al Gore, of the 2007 Peace Nobel Prize (link to announcement by Norwegian Nobel Committee). We congratulate the IPCC and its chairman, who was a visiting professor at West Virginia University during twelve months in 1981-82 in Mineral and Resource Economics (MRE). Fifteen years ago MRE joined with Agricultural Economics to form the Program in Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE). (Link to Dr. Pachauri's biography)

On Monday, May 7, 2007, the Division held a Symposium in Honor of Professor Walter C. Labys, a WVU Benedum Distinguished Scholar and longtime faculty member who retired in 2006. The papers of this symposium, together with additional contributions, have been assembled into the manuscript Commodity Modeling and Pricing: Methods for Analyzing Resource Market Behavior. PeterV. Schaeffer serves as editor, with the assistance of Walter C. Labys. The manuscript is under contract with John Wiley & Sons. Publication is expected in summer 2008.
